Forfar Athletic v Berwick Rangers (Scottish Cup Round Two) – Match Information
[Tuesday, 22 October 2024 10:40]
Scottish Cup action returns for ‘Loons’ officials, players and supporters on Saturday first, always an exciting prospect.
In the second round of this season’s competition sponsored again by Scottish Gas, following lengthy and ultimately successful trips to Kilwinning and Huntly over the past two seasons at the same stage, a home tie awaits this time round.
Old friends Berwick Rangers will provide the opposition, managed these days by Tam Scobbie, remembered for his playing exploits especially at Falkirk, St. Johnstone and Dundee United.
The ‘Borderers’ lost their SPFL status in May of 2019 losing the play-off final against Cove Rangers, the Aberdeen outfit triumphing over the two legs by an aggregate score line of 7-0. Since then they have found it hard going in the Lowland League and after a 3-0 defeat at Gretna on Saturday past, currently occupy 13th position.
The home side will go into the contest of the back of the 0-0 draw with league leaders East Fife on Saturday past, a contest that was frenetic in nature, but devoid of goal scoring opportunities for both sides. In the aftermath of that game, Ray McKinnon emphasised how important progress in the cup is to the club as witnessed by the excitement created by Hibernian’s visit last term in the fourth round.
Another important factor for clubs of Forfar’s stature are the financial rewards that run hand in hand with success in the famous old competition whose roots date back to 1873.
The match will have the usual 3pm. kick-off.
