MATCH PREVIEW: Forfar Athletic v Stenhousemuir
[Thursday, 21 January 2016 20:12]
The ‘Loons’ hope to get back into league action for the first time since Boxing Day with the visit of the ‘Warriors’ to Station Park on Saturday.
At the same time it will be an opportunity for all connected with the Station Park club to put the memory of Tuesday night’s events behind them and concentrate hopefully on ninety minutes of entertaining football.
Amazingly Forfar’s last home league victory came against Stenhousemuir away back on August 22nd when a brace from Danny Denholm and goals from Kerr Hay and Michael Travis set up a 4-1 win.
The clubs then shared the spoils in a 2-2 draw at Ochilview in November, when quite frankly the Athies gifted the home side a point.
Two up and cruising with only twelve minutes remaining they allowed Colin McMenamin to reduce the leeway before a debatable penalty decision cost them dearly, Jason Scotland netting the equaliser from the spot in the 83rd minute.
The home side go into Saturday’s game with a near clean bill of health, Danny Denholm struck down with a virus on Tuesday the only real doubt.
‘Loons’ supporters will get their first glimpse of new signing Andy Ryan who is set to start up front while Mark Baxter is likely to make his first starting appearance for some time in the back four.
Forfar currently sit seven points adrift of their opponents who went down 4-1 up at Peterhead in their last competitive game to reach a conclusion back on January 2nd.
Their home encounter with Brechin City last Saturday was abandoned due to snow at the half way point with Brown Ferguson’s side 1-0 up through a McMenamin strike.
Saturday’s game will be refereed by Mat Northcroft who was in charge of the ‘Loons’ home game with Peterhead last month.
The match is sponsored by Dundee based accountants Findlay & Company.
