MATCH PREVIEW: Forfar Athletic v East Fife
[Monday, 25 July 2016 10:20]
The ‘Loons’ welcome East Fife to Station Park on Tuesday evening in what is their second home fixture in Group A of the Betfred Cup.
The Bayview outfit, last season’s Labrokes League 2 Champions have had an outstanding tournament to date. Going in to Tuesday’s tie which is their last game in the group, a win for Gary Naysmith’s side would guarantee them top spot and a place in the knock-out stage of the competition.
They followed up a draw boosted by a penalty shoot-out bonus point against Dundee with an away win at Dumbarton and a 2-1 home success against Peterhead on Saturday past. Jonathan Page with a first half header and Paul McManus from the penalty spot were their marksmen in the victory over the ‘Blue Toon’ side.
As for Forfar, they do still have an outside chance of qualification, but results elsewhere would certainly have to also go their way over the final two rounds of fixtures.
Gary Bollan and his players who created such a good impression with the home support against Dumbarton in their opening league cup fixture therefore still have huge incentive to record a win tomorrow night, not the least the fact that bonus payments are made to clubs by the sponsors and league bosses, dependant on your final group position.
Gary will welcome back Jamie Bain who missed the defeat at Peterhead through suspension and hopefully Tam O’Brien to the ranks for the game, with Marc Scott also having come through both training sessions since the game at Balmoor with no ill effect.
The experienced Mat Northcroft, a familiar face at Station Park over the years will be the man in the middle.
Tuesday night’s game kicks-off at 7.45p.m.
Admission prices are £12 adults, £6 concessions.
A reminder that Forfar Athletic season tickets are not valid for this fixture.
The 1984 Lounge at the ground, situated at the rear of the main stand will be open for business from 6.30p.m. till kick-off with supporters of both sides welcome to enjoy a pre-match refreshment.
