Following their 3-1 win at Station Park yesterday afternoon, The New Saints of Oswestry await the outcome of the quarter final draw for the Irn Bru Cup which is due to take place on Monday at 2p.m.
The Welsh Premier League Champions were probably in the end worthy winners of yesterday’s tie which saw the home side nevertheless give them a few jittery moments in the second period, before Greg Draper completed his hat trick.
It was however a great experience for all involved. The ‘Loons’ players got their chance to pit their footballing talents against a full time side with Champions League pedigree and certainly did not disgrace themselves. What might have been the outcome if Gary Bollan’s side had not had to go into the game minus three key players through injury and illness?
Off the park the Station Park officials enjoyed entertaining their Welsh counterparts who were very appreciative of the organisation and hospitality offered during their visit.
Thanks are extended to the supporters who turned out to back the Athies, the crowd of just under 700 reasonable considering quite a few locals were Hampden bound.
The Refreshment Kiosk, Club Shop and certainly the 1984 Lounge all benefited from the fixture, bringing in vital revenue to the club on a Saturday when many sides of similar ‘vintage’ were sitting idle.
The club now move on to an equally important local derby this coming weekend followed by a William Hill Scottish Cup tie on the 22nd in what has to say the least been a hectic but highly entertaining season to date.
C’way the ‘Loons.’
