The ‘Loons’ recorded a 2-1 win over visitors Stirling Albion at Station Park last night in a well contested and at times highly entertaining SPFL Development League East fixture. Kerr Hay was the only over age player in the home ranks and he and Matthew Aitken came nearest to breaking the first half scoring deadlock.
In what transpired to be a much more open and attack minded second period, the home side took the lead in the 50th minute with a goal slightly freakish in nature. Jamie Gill sent in a deep cross from wide on the right which totally deceived the Albion keeper and ended up in the back of the net via the ‘woodwork.’
Stirling responded with Alex Docherty rattling the crossbar, before the Athies went two up in the 71st minute. A sweeping move the length of the pitch at pace culminated in Kerr Hay rifling the ball home from ten yards out from Aitken’s final pass.
Six minutes later and the visitors were back in the contest, Ross Cameron netting from the penalty spot after Docherty had been impeded in the box and to be fair Jason King came to his side’s rescue not long after thwarting Docherty’s close range attempt to net an equaliser.
A trip to Kelty on Monday evening of next week to face Cowdenbeath is the next fixture on the menu for the Station Park youngsters, Berwick Rangers due at Station Park on the 29th of the month.
