Summary/team news – The first of six home league derbies against our fellow Angus opponents is upon us with Brechin City for the first time since April of 2016 very welcome visitors to Station Park this Saturday.
The ‘Loons’ do not go into the game in great form following disappointing away defeats to Raith Rovers and Arbroath, Darren Dods outfit by coincidence having played the same two sides in their last two Ladbrokes League 1 outings securing 2-2 and 1-1 draws.
However, there can be no doubt that Jim Weir and his players will be up for the task of getting back to winning ways in what is their first home game in four weeks. Certainly, a repeat of last Saturday’s first-half display at Gayfield, albeit extended over the ninety minutes would be the order of the day!
The manager undoubtedly has a stronger pool to choose from than has been the case on many an occasion so far this season with only Michael Kennedy definitely ruled out. Club captain Michael Travis has been back in full training this week, while Matthew Aitken returned to the fray from the bench late in proceedings against the ‘Lichties.’
Latest signing Ross Cunningham made a very impressive debut at Arbroath netting with a spectacular free-kick into the bargain and certainly his pace allied to similar qualities from Lewis Moore and Dale Hilson will surely cause headaches for opposing defences as the season progresses.
Brechin are in the midst of a fairly impressive run of results having fought back from two down to defeat Dumbarton before the share of the spoils at Gayfield and at home to Raith.
Their goalscorer last weekend was Boris Melingui signed in the close season from Staffordshire outfit Leek Town, one of around ten new faces in the Glebe Park ranks, the most recent addition striker Callum Hendry on a temporary transfer from St. Johnstone.
No doubt Darren will be keen to put one over his former club in what should be an intriguing contest which will hopefully attract a few extra fans through the Station Park turnstiles.
