Summary – It is derby match action for a second Saturday running at Station Park with Montrose the visitors on this occasion. The teams could not be closer in the league. Following last Saturdays excellent 3-2 home win over Raith Rovers, the ‘Gab le Endies’ now occupy fourth place in the table, the ‘Loons’ fifth with only a goal difference of one separating them.
Home manager Jim Weir will be forced into at least one change to his starting line-up which has remained stable for the last four fixtures. Skipper Michael Travis begins what is now a two match ban, Andy Munro almost certain to be his replacement at the heart of the defence.
One player who will not feature in Jim Weir’s selection is goalkeeper Willie Muir who has been released from his contract by mutual consent.
The Athies had their moments to say the least in last Saturday’s titanic struggle with Arbroath but yet again they shot themselves in the foot with a few defensive lapses which cost them dear at the end of the day.
Television replays did however show that we certainly did not get the ‘rub of the green’ especially with the off side decision which denied the homesters a goal when the scores were level at 2-2.
Montrose who had six former Forfar players in their match day squad against Rovers last weekend triumphed over the Kirkcaldy outfit courtesy of goals from Martin Rennie, Craig Johnston and Ross Campbell.
Stewart Petrie and his ‘troops’ will therefore head to the county town in confident mode.
The sides have met twice already this campaign.
Back in August, the home side triumphed 3-1 at Station Park in a Betfred Cup group stage encounter. Then at Montrose in late September, the ‘Loons’ surged into a two goal lead before the half hour mark through counters from Mark Hill on debut and Jamie Bain, before goals from Graham Webster and Danny Cavanagh saw the spoils shared.
It all adds up to another hard fought and tense encounter this time round with hopefully a reasonable turnout from both sets of supporters to encourage all connected with both clubs.
