Summary – The ‘Loons’ head into their first home game of 2019 on the back of successive victories in the Ladbrokes League 1 against Brechin City and Dumbarton.
Those wins have seen them stabilise in fourth place in the league table, albeit just a point ahead of fifth-placed Airdrieonians.
The home side will go into Saturday’s contest of course minus the services of Mark Hill but no doubt the fans will give a warm welcome to latest recruit Adam Eckersley who is likely to find a berth in the starting line-up. Few if any other changes are likely to the starting line-up with word still awaited from parent club Hearts about Lewis Moore’s fitness.
With Adam Young’s short term contract with the club at end youngster Daniel Hoban, the club’s other midweek signing will be listed in the backup keeper role.
Home fans will again be looking forward to seeing the in-form striking duo of John Baird and Dale Hilson in action against Steve Farrell’s outfit. John’s goal against Dumbarton last Saturday was his fourteenth of the campaign in competitive matches, while Dale’s recent scoring run including the opener against the ‘Sons’ saw his overall tally reach the seven mark.
Stranraer lost out 2-1 at home to Montrose last weekend, two first-half penalty kicks their downfall.
It would appear that striker Luke Donnelly scorer of one of the goals in the Stair Park side’s victory over the Athies last month is headed for Arbroath, but Innes Cameron and PJ Crossan have both extended their loan periods with the Wigtownshire outfit this week. Cameron Elliot has also been recalled from Kilbirnie Ladeside and joins the squad for the trip north.
The ‘Loons‘ will be keen to make it three wins on the bounce for the second time this season, with difficult away games as has been mentioned previously on the horizon at Kilmarnock, Arbroath and Kirkcaldy.
