Summary – The ‘Loons’ get the opportunity to make it six home victories on the trot when East Fife visit Station Park on Saturday first.
That, however, will be no easy task against the side who sit one place below the Station Park outfit in the Ladbrokes League One, four points adrift but with two games in hand, those fixtures against the two teams currently occupying the bottom two places in the league table.
The Fifers have had a great season to date as have Forfar. Darren Young’s side reached the semi-final of the Irn Bru Cup before losing to Ross County and also missed out on a place in the last eight of the William Hill Scottish Cup through a solitary goal defeat at the hands of Partick Thistle.
Darren also strengthened his squad further earlier this week with the signing of Stewart Murdoch on loan from Dundee United, the midfielder making his debut in a highly competitive and very entertaining 1-1 draw with league leaders Arbroath at Methil on Tuesday evening.
The home side go into the game having returned to winning ways though not at their best against Stenhousemuir last Saturday courtesy of second-half strikes from Jamie Bain and John Baird. This as mentioned above extended their recent home run in the league to five successive victories with ten goals scored and only three conceded.
Though never afraid to make a change or two where felt necessary, the stability of selection has been a key point in recent times for Jim Weir. However, the manager will have another key decision to make come Saturday afternoon with Thomas Reilly having served his one-match ban last Saturday following his red card at Links Park the previous week.
All nineteen players in the squad would appear to be fit and as ever raring to go for what is the only SPFL fixture in Tayside this Saturday.
This clash brings to a conclusion for the ‘Loons’ the third quarter of the league campaign and we are certainly on course at present for the playoff spot that was targeted.
However, there is still a lot of ‘water to go under the brig’ yet prior to the first Saturday in May and one fact will not have escaped the statistically minded amongst the Station Park support.
East Fife are the only team in the league that we have so far failed to record a win against this term to date.
Let’s hope with the backing of the home support that Michael and the lads can put that right come 4.50p.m. on Saturday afternoon.
