Summary – The ‘Loons’ will look to keep up the momentum of their great start to the campaign when they visit Links Park for the second time already this season, on this occasion on Challenge Cup duty on Tuesday evening.
Just over three weeks back the Athies triumphed 4-1 in a Betfred Cup sectional tie at the same venue, although to be fair the final scoreline perhaps slightly flattered the victors over the piece.
Although victory and a third-round berth is still very much the focus for the tie, Manager Jim Weir has already confirmed in after-match interviews following the win over Stranraer on Saturday past that squad rotation will come into play.
All five of Saturday’s outfield substitutes are line for a starting berth on the night, with skipper Michael Travis also certain to return in central defence following his two-match league ban.
Montrose manager Stewart Petrie has also given a strong hint that his final selection will be made along similar lines which could mean a place in the starting eleven for Assistant Manager Ross Campbell and brother Iain, both ‘well-kent’ faces to Forfar fans.
The Station Park side’s record in this tournament has been a disappointment over the past couple of seasons with a defeat away from home to Ross County Colts followed by a penalty shoot-out nightmare against Livingston’s youngsters last term.
Hopefully, on this occasion in what is still sure to be a feisty local derby, a win can be secured and with a third-round berth on the first Saturday in September.
Referee – Gavin Duncan Assistant Referees – Michael Banks & Scott Leslie
Supporters Note – In the event of the scores being level at the conclusion of the ninety minutes in a Tunnocks Caramel Wafer Challenge Cup tie, the winner will be decided by a penalty shoot-out under the normal FIFA regulations.
