Less than 48 hours after they trooped off the Station Park playing surface on Tuesday evening following a disappointing performance against Peterhead, the Forfar players will be back in action in a vital bottom of the table clash with Clyde at Broadwood.
It will be the first time the clubs have ‘crossed swords this season, Thursday night’s contest was originally scheduled for early December but Clyde were forced to call the fixture off for covid related reasons.
The two sides are in fact due to meet again a week on Tuesday at Station Park, with a third game a certainty in the post-split group of matches in late April or early May.
Stuart Malcolm is likely to freshen up his starting line-up following the draw with Jim McInally’s outfit and certainly, he will have Andy Munro and Hamish Thomson available following suspension.
A few of the players were nursing knocks as they left Station Park on Tuesday evening, but hopefully, all will have recovered by kick-off time to continue their gruelling schedule.
Clyde have had a reasonable week. Like their opponents, Danny Lennon’s side reached the last sixteen of the Scottish Cup with an excellent 1-0 win down at Ayr on Saturday past, that result following on from an impressive 2-0 success up at Peterhead last midweek.
The ‘Bully Wee were also in action last Thursday night losing by the only goal of the game away to East Fife, a 1-1 draw the outcome of their fixture at home to Cove earlier this week, David Goodwillie their marksman.
Ross Cunningham who had a spell a couple of years back on loan with the Athies from Hamilton Accies was in the Clyde starting line-up on Tuesday evening, while former Station Park fans favourite Jamie Bain was an unused substitute.
The match once again has a 7 p.m. kick-off and the referee is Graham Grainger who will be handling a ‘Loons’ fixture for the first time.
