Preview – The ‘Loons’ return home on Saturday first when Stirling Albion rocked by the sudden resignation of manager Kevin Rutkiewicz on Thursday are the visitors to Station Park for the first time since January of 2017 when the clubs fought out a 1-1 draw.
The ‘Binos’ arrive at Station Park having slipped to fourth place in the league table following their surprise 1-0 defeat at bottom of the league Cowdenbeath last Saturday.
At the same time, the Athies were consolidating their second spot with a hard fought 3-2 win away to Albion Rovers courtesy of goals from Stefan McCluskey, PJ Crossan and Steven Anderson. In the latter two cases it was in fact their first goals of the campaign to date.
Forfar now sit six points ahead of third placed Annan Athletic and seven points adrift of leaders Kelty Hearts who do of course have a game in hand following on what appears to have been a farcical scenario which ended up with their scheduled game at Elgin postponed 90 minutes prior to kick-off on Tuesday past.
The Forfar manager will have the luxury of a fairly full squad to choose from as he hopefully plots the downfall of a visiting side under the temporary stewardship of James Creaney, though Craig Thomson and Darren Whyte will be absentees.
Gary will be well aware of the fact that Stirling are one of two teams who have triumphed over the ‘Loons’ on league business this season, a 1-0 win the end result of a hard fought contest at Forthbank in September.
Goalkeepers Blair Currie and Marc McCallum distinguished themselves in the first period of that fixture, before Albion sub on the day Dylan Bikey netted the solitary counter with nine minutes left on the clock.
The home management team will no doubt be emphasising to their players that they will have to be at their best on Saturday if they wish to maintain their unbeaten home record in competitive matches this season against a side who despite last Saturday’s hiccup and the midweek upheaval have a Scottish Cup trip to Ibrox to look forward to in the New Year.
Duncan Williams is the man in middle on Saturday, the first time this season he has been in charge of a Forfar fixture.
Hopefully despite the close proximity to Christmas, the home support who have been superb in their encouragement of the side this term following their enforced absence last season will turn out in reasonable numbers to give Ross and his colleagues their backing once again.
This Saturday’s other cinch league2 fixtures are;-
Annan Athletic v Elgin City, Kelty Hearts v Albion Rovers, Stenhousemuir v Edinburgh City, Stranraer v Cowdenbeath
