PREVIEW
Forfar Athletic welcome Albion Rovers to Station Park on Saturday in a determined mood after a disappointing first-half performance against Edinburgh City on Monday evening led to three points slipping away.
In fact, January proved to be the least productive month of the campaign to date with only four points gained from the four fixtures completed, one win recorded by the odd goal in five against Stranraer.
Gary Irvine and his players will be keen to put this blip behind them as a new month begins and with the talent available in the Station Park squad there is no reason that this should not be the case.
As far as squad numbers are concerned for Saturday’s encounter long term injury victims Steven Anderson and Jamie Ness are ruled out while Craig Thomson and Archie Thomas’s fitness will be assessed pre-match.
The three new faces recruited over the past week, Tomas Brindley, Kyle Hutton and Steven Warnock are all however fit and raring to go.
The Athies go into the contest now ten points adrift of leaders Kelty and only one point in front of third-placed Annan Athletic.
Opponents Albion Rovers sit in the ninth position in the league table, but they do at present have a six-point cushion over bottom club Cowdenbeath, but the Fifers did pick up all three points courtesy of an early penalty when the sides clashed at Cliftonhill last weekend.
Rovers boss former Rangers defender Brian Reid brought in three new faces in January, but only Josh Jack signed on loan from St. Mirren featured in the starting line-up in that game, Hearts loanee Harry Stone and Blair Malcolm recruited from East Kilbride having to settle for a place on the bench.
Goals from Stefan McCluskey, Scott Shepherd and Matty Aitken secured a 3-1 win for the ‘Loons’ when the Coatbridge side visited Station Park back in late September.
Stefan was again on the mark in Lanarkshire eight weeks back when Forfar triumphed 3-2 in a gripping contest that belied the gruelling conditions, PJ Crossan and Steven Anderson the other marksmen on the day.
With two successive away days on the horizon, Ross Meechan and his colleagues will be extra keen to accumulate a three-point haul and reward a home support who in recent times have given excellent backing to their favourites.
The referee on Saturday is Steven Reid who will be making his second visit of the season to Station Park.
Match Sponsor – We are delighted to welcome Chief Executive Officer Phil Milton from Aberdeen based Well-Safe Solutions and his guests.
Hospitality Guests – Steve Durward & Friends, Kevin Milne & Friends, Drew & Graham Wilson & Friends
