PREVIEW
The paths of Forfar Athletic and Cowdenbeath cross for the fourth time this season when the Fifers head to Station Park on Saturday afternoon.
As has been well documented the sides met last midweek at Central Park, goals from Craig Thomson and Andy Munro clinching a 2-1 win for the ‘Loons.’
The Athies followed this up with a trip to Coatbridge, where in a game which will not live long in the memory of the 200 plus fans present, both sides picked up a point from a goalless ninety minutes.
Rovers in fact probably felt hard done by not picking up a full three point haul, but to be fair Stefan McCluskey though not one hundred per cent fit on the day was denied by the home custodian in the game’s dying embers.
The home side go into the game still minus long term injury victims, Steven Anderson, Sam Fisher and Jamie Ness, but Steven Warnock is now back to full fitness.
The ‘Loons’ now sit in third place in the table five points adrift of Annan Athletic who have had such a great run of results in recent weeks but they have a seven point ‘cushion’ as regards fourth placed Edinburgh City, Stenhousemuir a further two points behind.
Incidentally if the Galabank outfit were to lose at home to Albion Rovers on Saturday and Kelty were to win against Stenhousemuir, the league newcomers would be crowned champions.
Their near neighbours Cowdenbeath sadly sit in bottom spot in the table ten points behind Elgin City with only six games remaining.
Maurice Ross’s side’s season was probably summed up last weekend. They took the lead at home to Stenhousemuir with a Fraser Mullen penalty in the 79th minute, only for Darren Christie to equalise in the 93rd minute!
Back to Saturday first and there will be no doubt that Gary Irvine and his management team will be emphasising to their squad how important three points will be in securing a play-off spot as well as putting the pressure on Annan, especially with tough away games at Stranraer and Edinburgh City due over the next two weekends.
Peter Stuart is the man in the middle.
C’mon the ‘Loons.’
