Forfar Athletic v Stenhousemuir
[Monday, 25 April 2022 20:30]
After two excellent performances and results against Annan Athletic and Kelty Hearts, the ‘Loons’ head into their final scheduled league fixture of the campaign on Saturday first when Stenhousemuir are the visitors to Station Park sitting in second position in the cinch league2 table.
They sit on the same points tally as Annan who they will meet in a two legged play-off semi final next week, but their goal difference ratio is seven ahead of the Dumfriesshire side.
Of course the club that finish in second place, apart from the kudos of the runners-up spot, have the advantage of the second leg of the semi final at home and on the afternoon ofSaturday May 7th.
Credit certainly is due to the playing staff for their efforts to overhaul Annan’s four point advantage over the last two weekends.
Following on the five goal demolition job carried out on the Galabank outfit, they fully merited their point in a hard fought encounter over in Fife on Saturday.
Unlucky to be one down at half time, the crucial moments in the second period were a candidate for goal of the season from young Steven Warnock, followed by a candidate for save of the season from Marc McCallum.
The ‘Loons’ also had to play the final 40 minutes with ten men following the red card issued to Stefan McCluskey for an alleged comment to the man in the middle.
This means Stefan will sit out the clash with the ‘Warriors’ but will return for the play-off fixtures.
Incidentally the Athies have only had two players sent off this season, Andy Munro the first in the cup tie up at Formartine and it was the same referee on both occasions who dealt out the punishment.
Back to Saturday first and there is obviously all to play for as far as the home side is concerned against a visiting side who can no longer qualify for the play-offs, following a disappointing home defeat at the hands of Stranraer on Saturday past.
Hopefully there may be a few extra supporters who take the opportunity to come along and give Ross and his colleagues their backing.
A full preview will appear on our social media platforms alter in the week.
