PREVIEW
The ‘Loons’ return to Station Park on Saturday when they play host to Albion Rovers in what is the Athies last home game of the calendar year.
Manager Ray McKinnon is looking forward to what is only his second game on home ‘turf’ since taking over the Station Park reins and despite selection restraints is still confident he can put out a side which can record what would be a vital success for the home side.
Suspensions bite tomorrow with Kyle Hutton and Roberto Nditi ruled out. Kyle serves a one match ban following his red card at Dumbarton, while Roberto went over the six booking threshold in the same game with a harsh last minute yellow card for alleged time wasting.
Tomas Brindley is also ruled out with ligament damage, but on the plus side Craig Moore returns to the match day squad, while long term injury victim James Keatings continues to make progress.
McKinnon’s charges go into the game following two draws in his first games in charge against Bonnyrigg and notably away to league leaders Dumbarton and there is no doubt that they will be keen in what is the last time the home support will see them in action till January 2nd to respond with a positive result and performance.
Saturday’s opponents Albion Rovers like their oppontnets exited the Scottish Cup last weekend, an extra time counter seeing the University of Stirling progress in a tense Cliftonhill encounter.
However prior to that Rovers under the management of former Rangers defender Brian Reid had picked up seven points from their three November league fixtures.
A 1-1 draw at home to Stirling Albion on Guy Fawkes Day was followed by a late late show which secured a 3-2 success away to East Fife, prior to a Callum Wilson goal sealing the three points at home to Stranraer.
Albion and the ‘Loons’ clashed back in mid September in Lanarkshire, the visitors picking up all three points courtesy of second half counters from Matthew Aitken and Kyle Hutton.
An interested spectator at Saturday’s game will be former Forfar Athletic manager and all time record appearance holder Ian McPhee who will be in hospitality with a group of golf playing pals from the ‘Fair City.’
Let’s hope the fact that a true ‘Loons’ legend will be in attendance may also inspire the home side on the day to secure a second home win of the campaign and a much needed three point haul.
Saturday’s referee first season Grade One official Jordan Curran is certainly becoming a familiar face at Station Park.
He was also the man in the middle at our last home game as well as the visit of East Fife in October.
