PREVIEW
The ‘Loons’ return to Station Park on Saturday with Stranraer the visitors, the first of two home games on the bounce for the Athies.
Ray McKinnon was as were all Forfar supporters present delighted with the commitment shown, not to mention the control of the game in the second period as a third successive victory was achieved against Albion Rovers at Cliftonhill last weekend in testing underfoot conditions.
The manager is looking forward to the next 180 minutes of competitive action for his side taking place on the pristine Station Park surface.
Ray will have a near full squad to choose from for the visit of Jamie Hamill’s outfit with Stefan McCluskey returning after serving a one match ban, while Craig Slater an absentee in the last two matches taking part in a full training session on Thursday evening.
Roberto Nditi is however a doubt following the second half knock he received against Rovers and his fitness will be checked on the day.
All five January new faces will be in the match day squad and it will be the first time the home support will have the possibility of seeing Max Gillies and Darren Watson in action.
Stranraer currently sit two points adrift of their opponents in the league table following a 1-0 defeat at Stirling last Saturday.
The Stair Park side brought in three newcomers in January, Matthew Connelly from Motherwell, Aaron Brown from Kilmarnock and Ayr United’s Finn Ecrepont all on temporary transfers.
Their main threat up front comes from leading scorer James Hilton who netted the only goal of the game at Stair Park on the last occasion that the sides ‘crossed swords’ back in late October, the ‘Loons’ winning the first encounter between the teams this term back in August at Station Park 2-0, Craig Slater and Andy Munro the scorers on that occasion.
Six points out of six will undoubtedly be the aim of the Forfar management and players over the next two Saturday’s, Stenhousemuir the visitors next weekend, but there are no easy games in this tight knit league and Ray McKinnon will be emphasising that full concentration on the job in hand from the first whistle on Saturday is a ‘given.’
Hopefully the players can also thrive on a continuance of the enthusiastic vibes that have been so evident from the home support at recent Station Park fixtures.
George Calder the referee on Saturday also took charge of the clash between the sides at Stranraer in October, one of three previous occasions he has been in control of a ‘Loons’ fixture this campaign.
