Dumbarton v Forfar Athletic – match preview
[Tuesday, 28 March 2023 15:32]
The ‘Loons’ complete their trio of away games over an eight day period with a trip to Dumbarton on Wednesday evening.
They will do so on the back of securing a point against Stenhousemuir at Ochilview on Saturday past courtesy of Craig Slater’s second half equaliser.
Only a ‘coat of paint’ if even that it would appear from photographic evidence and a few eye witness verdicts from in line fans prevented them from securing all three points as Seb Ross’s 94th minute was according to the stand side assistant cleared off the line.
These moments as they say even themselves out over a season, but it is often difficult to find a manager or player who would concur?
Onwards and upwards however and Ray McKinnon as ever is looking forward to another tough away assignment.
He is confident nevertheless that his squad can pick up all three points and move themselves back into a top half of the table position as the penultimate month of the season appears on the horizon.
There were one or two wee niggles that required some treatment at training on Monday evening but the good news came in the form of Ben Armour and Mark Docherty both taking part in the full session after being struck down by illness in the run up to the clash with the ‘Warriors.’
Certainly if the Athies can retain the form they showed in the second period at Ochilview in particular from the off, there is no reason whatsoever why they cannot get their fourth game of the season against the ‘Sons’ completed with an undefeated record intact.
The sides fought out a 0-0 draw at Station Park in early October, the honours again shared at Dumbarton in mid November, the ten men of Forfar on the day comfortably picking up a point, before two Ben Armour goals secured all three points for the home side at Station Park back in January.
Steve Farrell’s side will go into Wednesday night’s game knowing that a win would see them regain top spot in the cinch league2 table following on from their 2-2 draw at current table toppers Stirling Albion on Saturday past, Ross MacLean who had a short spell on loan at Station Park a few seasons back one of their marksmen.
That result brought some semblance of normality back to the ‘Sons’ season after an astonishing 5-1 home defeat from Albion Rovers the previous weekend.
It is likely to be another tight affair on Wednesday eveningand hopefully despite the distance involved and the midweek slot a few ‘Loons’ supporters will be present to give their backing to Craig and his colleagues.
Graham Grainger a fairly regular Premiership official this term is the man in the middle for the only SPFL game being played this midweek.
