Forfar Athletic v East Fife
[Monday, 01 May 2023 21:51]
The curtain will come down on the 2022/3 season as far as Forfar Athletic is concerned when the final whistle is blown at the cinch league2 clash with East Fife at Station Park on Saturday first.
Looking back over the past ten months as you do at this time of the season It has been to say the least a campaign of mixed fortunes with a certain amount of ‘turbulence’ thrown in for good measure.
Back in August of last year we commenced the 36 game league season as one of the bookies favourites to clinch the title and certainly there were high hopes amongst all involved at the club into the bargain.
No one it would be fair to say anticipated the early season outcome that saw the ‘Loons’ sit bottom of the table come early November.
The arrival of Ray McKinnon saw a welcome upsurge in fortunes on the park and by April 1st league safety was mathematically assured and promotion was remarkably a distinct possibility by the play-off route.
That was not to be as the season has petered out with one draw and three defeats since, through no lack of on field effort it has to be said, the possibility of League1 football next season ending at Forthbank last Saturday.
Our opponents on Saturday East Fife do have that end of season fixture ‘rush’ to look forward to following their win over Albion Rovers at the weekend.
Back to the home front and there is little doubt that Craig Slater and his colleagues will be keen to reward the Athies faithful and end their season on a high note with a home victory and a performance to match as well.
A full preview of the match will appear on our social media channels on Friday.
