Midweek Derby Jousts for ‘Loons’

The SPFL have this afternoon issued the group stage fixtures for the Viaplay Cup and Forfar Athletic have been handed two midweek Angus derby fixtures.

Ray McKinnon’s side will begin their competitive campaign on match day one, Saturday 15^th July at Station Park with Lowland League Cowdenbeath, controversial invitees to the tournament as far as the Highland League are concerned  the visitors.

The Athies then continue their Group H campaign the following midweek heading to Links Park, Montrose on Tuesday the 18^th to meet Stewart Petrie’s league one outfit.

We are then the odd team out on the 22^nd before Arbroath are the mouth watering visitors to Station Park on Tuesday 25^th July.

The final group games are scheduled for Saturday 29^th July and it will be a first ever visit to SMISA Stadium, alternatively known as St. Mirren Stadium in Paisley for the ‘Loons’ for a clash with group favourites and in fact the top seeds within the group stage of the competition St. Mirren who finished sixth in the Premiership at the end of May.
