PREVIEW
The ‘Loons’ return to cinch league2 action for the first time in four weeks when Stenhousemuir currently sitting in fourth place in the league table are the opponents at the Alpha Projects Stadium at Station Park on Saturday afternoon.
Manager Ray McKinnon as ever is looking forward in a positive mode to the fixture against Gary Naysmith’s side, while admitting it has been a strange period for a few clubs in recent times, the atrocious autumnal weather especially in the east of the country and international breaks leading to a curtailed period of match day action.
The Athies however will go into the fixture buoyed by their extra time success at Huntly in the Scottish Cup last weekend, a victory that clinched a third round trip to Lowland League Tranent, a fixture now confirmed for November 25th.
The home side will go into tomorrow’s game with a near full squad available to the management team.
Craig Thomson remains an absentee due to work commitments, while Keiran Inglis a late call off last Saturday will again have to miss out with a mystery foot injury.
Whether changes will be made to the starting line-up will only be revealed in the run up to kick-off, but certainly those introduced from the bench as the gruelling conditions took their toll in the second half at Christie Park did their chances no harm with Seb Ross causing a tiring Huntly defence all sorts of problems while Cameron Ferguson and Ryan Paterson both got on the score sheet in extra-time.
The ‘Warriors’ head north having made a disappointing exit from the national tournament at Ochilview last week, Brora Rangers it would appear recording a relatively comfortable 2-0 victory.
They have had one league encounter in recent times, a 1-1 midweek draw up at Elgin, Adam Brown giving them a first half lead, only for City to net an 86th minute equaliser.
Former ‘Loons’ skipper Ross Meechan was shown a red card in that match, losing a subsequent appeal which means no doubt very disappointingly for him he will miss this weekend’s encounter.
It will however be a return to Station Park action for Matty Aitken who has been a regular up front for his new club all season to date.
A goalless draw was the outcome of the clash between the sides back in early August and if that result alongside last season’s four encounters which saw a 2-1 victory achieved by both sides on ‘foreign soil’, alongside two 1-1 draws are taken as a barometer for the ninety minutes ahead a close fought ninety minutes is in store.
Peter Stuart the man in the middle will be handling a Forfar Athletic fixture for the first time this campaign.
