PREVIEW
Forfar Athletic and Clyde clash at Station Park for the first time since April of 2021 tomorrow in what is without doubt a vital match for both sides.
There is no disputing the fact that in the football world in this country nothing is ever decided by November month, but with both teams struggling to find form at the wrong end of the cinch league2 table, three points would be a great boost.
Manager Ray McKinnon has certainly left the Station Park playing squad in no doubt that he requires a major reaction and massive improvement on last week’s showing which ended in a 3-1 home defeat to Stenhousemuir.
Ray was honest enough in his after match assessment following the ‘Warriors’ fixture to admit he could not really put his finger on the reasons for the lack lustre display practically from the tenth minute onwards, this after opening exchanges when it looked like the ‘Loons’ were going to blow their opponents away.
It was all the more puzzling when it also came on the back of blistering extra-time performance in the Huntly cup-tie the previous week. However the reaction both in a bounce game on Tuesday evening and at training on Thursday has been positive in all respects.
It will be the same Athies squad that is available to the management team tomorrow with perhaps an odd change or two to the starting line-up from last weekend.
As for the visitors who sit two points below the home side in the league table going into the game, they will obviously be without Darren Whyte the defender currently on loan obviously not able to play against his parent club.
The ‘Bully Wee’ lost 2-1 at home to Spartans last Saturday, this on the back of their televised cup-tie victory at Musselburgh earlier in the week.
Interim Manager Chris Millar will again be in charge of the side that travels north for the game, Ross Forbes and Logan Dunachie who have both worn the ‘Loons’ colours in the recent past in his squad, the main goal threat it would appear coming from experienced striker Martin Rennie scorer of five goals to date this term.
The teams fought out an instantly forgettable goalless draw at Douglas Park in early September and both sets of fans will be hoping for better fare on Saturday.
For the home side it will be their last outing at Station Park this month with trips to Bonnyrigg, Elgin and Tranent on the immediate horizon.
Saturday’s man in the middle Duncan Nicolson will be making his second visit of the season to Forfar.
