PREVIEW
The ‘Loons’ head into their last two games of the cinch league2 campaign with their SPFL future confirmed following their 2-1 home win over East Fife last Saturday.
The three points were secured against the Fifers by an excellent all round performance in the second period of the game, form which manage Ray McKinnon and all supporters will hope to see continue from the off this Saturday when Strarnaer are the visitors to the Alpha Projects Stadium @ Station Park.
Although the pressure is off for Andy Munro and his team mates, the two remaining fixtures are far from meaningless, especially as matters currently stand at the bottom of the table, especially for the Stair Park outfit.
Scott Agnew’s side currently sit in ninth position on 33 points, one ahead of bottom placed Clyde in the league standings.
They have actually not tasted victory since early March and despite picking up a couple of points in the process, they have not found the net in their last three games.
However be warned. Anyone who watched the highlights of their home goalless draw with Dumbarton last Saturday will realise how unlucky they were not to find the net on numerous occasions.
The Forfar management team will leave their squad in no doubt that they want to finish what has been in many respects a fine second half of the campaign on a winning note, securing sixth place in the table which will admittedly still be short of pre-season expectation with victories over Saturday’s visitors and at Bonnyrigg the following week.
Ray expects to have a full squad at his disposal for the second week running, unusual in itself this campaign with last week’s second half marksman Russell McLean set to lead the line and hopefully add to his goal scoring tally.
The home side go into the contest unbeaten against their opponents this term having won 2-0 at Stair Park in the Autumn, prior to a 1-1 draw at Station Park in December, the third clash an instantly forgettable goalless ninety minutes in early March.
Hopefully the home faithful will turn out in reasonable numbers for the final chapter of the campaign as far as home games are concerned and be rewarded with a keenly contested tussle with at fair bit still at stake, but most importantly a three point haul for the ‘Loons.’
Dan McFarlane the man in the middle will be handling a Forfar Athletic fixture for the first time this season.
A reminder that the various Player of the Year Awards will be presented at an on field ceremony approximately ten minutes after the final whistle. It is hoped that supporters will stay on and show their appreciation.
