The ‘Loons’ head to the Home of the Set Fare Arena in West Lothian on Tuesday evening to battle it out against a Livingston team in what is match day three for both sides in Group ‘E’ of the Premier Sports Cup.
The ‘Livi Lions’ were relegated from the Premiership in May, but under new manager former Irish international Greg Whelan they are undoubtedly one of the favourites to make a quick return to the top flight this season.
To date in the competition, Jim Weir’s side have lost both games played, a 4-0 defeat at home to Partick Thistle last midweek, having been preceded by a 2-0 reverse on match day one at Ochilview.
On both occasions the Athies have been beset by early season injury and unavailability problems which naturally the manager hopes will improve at a quick ‘rate of knots’ with the league campaign due to begin on Saturday week.
As for Livingston, they began their attempt to qualify for the knock-out stages with a 2-0 win u.p at Brechin, Robbie Muirhead and one of nine new faces at the club Tyrese Sinclair signed from York City their marksmen.
Muirhead was again on the mark in the home tussle with Partick on Saturday past, but a late equaliser from Alex Samuel and a subsequent penalty shoot-out success for the ‘Jags’ put a dent in Livingston’s hopes of topping the group come this weekend.
Obviously as acknowledged by the Forfar management team, Tuesday night’s clash will be another difficult ninety minutes against full-time opponents, but it is another important step along the way in preparation for the hard slog of the thirty-six game battle for league points that lies ahead.
The sides last met in a League Cup fixture at Station Park in July of 2024, the visitors taking the spoils courtesy of a 2-0 win.

Last season the ‘Lions’ operated a match day kiosk where tickets could be purchased on a match day utilising card or cash, but no confirmation has been received as to whether this facility will be available on Tuesday.
Kick-off is at 7.45p.m.
Footnote;- The ‘Loons’ final group fixture in the Premier Sports Cup will see Brechin City as visitors to the Parkgrove Stadium @ Station Park on Saturday first, the kick-off as usual at 3p.m.
