Match Report
Forfar Athletic 2 - 1 Albion Rovers
Forfar moved into 4th place with a strong second half showing against Abion Rovers.
Despite a slow start, it was the Loons who carved out the first chances. Craig Thomson beat 2 on the wing in the 10th minute but his cross deflected into the side netting.
Stefan McCluskey passed up the hosts best opportunity of the opening period when he fired at Jack Leighfield after the ball broke kindly for him.
The game lacked quality in the first half but Roberto Nditi almost scored a spectacular opener. He crashed a volley from range off the crossbar.
The Loons would be made to pay for some sloppy passing in midfield in the 33rd minute. The Rovers worked the ball to Joe Bevan and the 18 year old chopped inside on the edge of the box and finished with aplomb.
An inspired substitution turned the game on its head in the second period.
Nathan Flanagan made an instant impact and hauled his side level with an impressive header into the corner from all of 12 yards after a defender made a mess of the clearance.
It took just six minutes for the Loons to get themselves in front. Again Flanagan was involved, he released Mark Docherty on the left whose De-Bruyne-esque cross was tapped into an empty net by Ben Armour.
The Athies would have the opportunity to add some gloss to the score line in the 84th minute when Craig Thomson was clumsily fouled in the box but Ben Armour’s well struck effort was saved strongly by Leighfield.
The victory sees McKinnon’s men move into fourth place in the cinch league 2 table and level with third placed Annan with five games left to play.
