BETFRED LEAGUE CUP – Penalty Shoot-Out Innovation
[Sunday, 10 July 2016 14:24]
A reminder to supporters that there is major new innovation in the first round group stages of the Betfred Cup which get underway on Friday 15th July.
Three points will still be awarded for a win with zero points for a defeat.
If the scores are level after ninety minutes both teams will as in the past receive one point each.
However a penalty shoot-out will then be staged under the FIFA regulations with the eventual winner of the shoot-out getting a bonus point.
It will certainly generate an exciting end to a drawn match and again the ‘top brass’ at the SPFL deserve credit for their attempts to spice up the tournament alongside their officials partners Betfred.
A reminder that two games in the opening round of fixtures are due to be staged at Station Park this coming weekend.
On Friday evening Cove Rangers will be the ‘home’ side, with Raith Rovers their opponents, the kick-off 7.45p.m.
Then on Saturday, Championship outfit Dumbarton will pay their first visit to the ‘toonie’ since February of 2012 to take on Gary Bollan’s men, the kick-off as usual at 3p.m.
