MATCH PREVIEW: Dundee v Forfar Athletic
[Thursday, 28 July 2016 21:25]
Forfar Athletic make the short journey down the road to Dens Park on Saturday for their final fixture in Group A of the Betfred Cup.
It will be the ‘Loons’ first visit to Dens since August of 2013 when we lost out in two closely contested cup ties within seven days of one another in the Challenge and League Cup tournaments.
Gary Bollan and his players still have a chance of progressing to the group stages if they were to upset the form book on Saturday. In fact they sit one point ahead of their opponents following Tuesday evening’s results.
While the Athies were recording an impressive and fully deserved victory over East Fife at Station Park, the Dens Park outfit were on the wrong side of a 2-1 score line up at Peterhead, Greg Stewart actually netting Paul Hartley’s side’s goal well into added on time.
This in fact means that a Peterhead victory at Dumbarton on Saturday will secure top spot for Jim McInally’s side, while East Fife who have completed their four match programme and already sit on eight points can only wait and wonder!
Back to Dens and Gary is likely to make few if any changes to his starting line-up from Tuesday. Marc Scott and Michael Kennedy are still side lined through injury, although the former may be fit for the start of the league campaign on Saturday week.
The home side will obviously be without striker Kane Hemmings who moved to Oxford United in midweek and Paul Hartley may well make a few changes with the league opener at Ross County seven days hence in mind.
Saturday’s match will be refereed by Scotland’s man in the middle at Euro 2016, Willie Collum who last took charge of a ‘Loons’ fixture in that ill fated play-off at Alloa in May of last year.
Hopefully a reasonable travelling support will make the trip down the A90 and admission prices have been pegged at £12 for adults, £6 concessions.
Forfar Athletic supporters will be accommodated in the Main Stand Section B. Utilise turnstile number 32.
