‘Class’ of 2016 equal club record
[Tuesday, 27 September 2016 19:08]
The current
‘Loons’ squad it has been confirmed equalled a club record at Broadwood on
Saturday by winning seven consecutive league fixtures. This is only the
third time the feat has been achieved in the Athies 131 year history.
The first
occasion was back in February/April of 1995 as the team of that era under Tommy
Campbell’s stewardship went on to clinch the SFL Third Division title. A similar run of
wins was recorded for a second time in March and April of 2010 by Dick
Campbell’s troops on the way to a play-off spot and subsequent promotion.
Congratulations
are in order to Gary and his players on this achievement and of course Stuart
and his team mates now have a chance in Saturday’s local derby to re-write the
Station Park record book. It will be no
easy task however.
It is
interesting to look back on the runs in the two previous campaigns mentioned
above.
