An Evening with Jim Spence and Friends
[Wednesday, 25 January 2017 12:28]
Forfar Athletic officials as has often been mentioned in the past never ‘rest on their laurels’ and they have come up with another evening’s entertainment which will surely be a must go to for many a football supporter in the town.
On Friday March 10th in the 1984 Lounge at Station Park, former BBC Football Correspondent, now freelance journalist Jim Spence will host an evening when without doubt, the ‘Beautiful Game’ will be the hot topic.
The line up of Jim’s guests for the evening is impressive;-
ARCHIE KNOX – Still a Station Park legend, though it is now nearly 37 years since he departed the ‘toonie’ to become Alex Ferguson’s right hand man at Aberdeen. From Pittodrie he went on to carve out as a career as one of the top coaches in the British game working at Manchester United, Rangers, Everton, with Scotland at Under 21 and full international level as well as a handful of other clubs north and south of the border. Despite it all he has never ever forgotten his Angus roots, nor for that matter his first senior club both as player and manager, the ‘Loons’ having a special place in his heart to this day. What a fund of stories he must have to tell.
BOB VALENTINE – The former FIFA referee handled on numerous occasions every big game imaginable in Scotland. He also officiated at the World Cup Finals in 1982 where he took charge of the now infamous Austria v West Germany clash and at the Euro Finals in 1984 and 1988. After retiring from ‘active service’ Bob became a referee coach/supervisor not only in his native Scotland but both with UEFA and FIFA and he too will have a tale or two to tell on the evening.
GARY BOLLAN – The ‘Loons’ manager who has led his side to their current spot at the top of the Ladbrokes League 2 table and whose playing career saw him wear the colours of Dundee United, Rangers and St. Johnstone to name but three and also represent his country up to Under 21 level. His thoughts on his current club and his long time in the game will add another dimension to the evening.
The programme for the evening will be a simple one.
Following a three course meal, Jim will host a talk-in with his three guests no doubt discussing with them many of their memories from the past and their thoughts on the present and future state of the game in Scotland in particular but also world wide.
Then following a short break, there will be a question and answer session and discussion period with inter action from the assembled audience.
There will also be a raffle and hopefully a small auction to boost the club funds on the night.
Tickets are as ever with any Forfar Athletic function competitively priced at £25 and with numbers limited are likely to be in short supply.
