MATCH PREVIEW - Queens Park v Forfar Athletic
[Thursday, 12 October 2017 15:52]
Following on a disappointing start to the campaign and a turbulent few weeks in particular, Forfar Athletic get back to playing Ladbrokes League 1 football this Saturday in what will be Jim Weir’s debut fixture as the club’s new manager.
What better setting, Station Park apart for the occasion than a visit to the National Stadium to face Queens Park in what will be the first league meeting between the sides since the 2009/10 season.
Our paths have of course crossed since in cup tie jousts.
The ‘Spiders’ and the ‘Loons’ go into the contest rooted to the foot of the table with four points each to date.
Jim Weir has undoubted selection problems for the game with Simon Mensing and Jim Lister definitely ruled out through injury and a few other players facing late fitness checks.
Grant Adam is back in full training and may feature on the bench.
All connected with the Station Park club took heart from the improved showing against Stranraer two weeks back when only a late equaliser denied the Athies the three points their performance deserved.
Queens go into the game on the back of a 4-2 defeat at Airdrie, their only victory of the campaign to date, a 1-0 win over East Fife at the New Bayview last month.
There are a couple of connections with the ‘Loons’ in their current line-up. Midfield player Gregor Fotheringham had a spell on loan to Forfar from Rangers a few seasons back, while defender Jack Iredale on loan from his new club Morton, played a pre-season game on trial at Station Park in July following his return from Australia.
Hopefully the ‘Loons’ squad will head into Saturday’s challenge with a positive attitude under Jim’s charge and over the ensuing ninety minutes gain their first three point haul since the season’s opening day.
The match at Hampden has the usual 3p.m. kick-off, with one of Scotland’s most experienced officials Alan Muir the man in the middle.
Admission prices at Hampden are £14 for adults, £5 for O.A.P’s and £3 for Under 16’s.
