Summary – Forfar Athletic and East Fife meet at Station Park in their re-arranged league fixture on Saturday, the original fixture having been postponed because of both club’s participation in the second stage of the Betfred Cup in mid-August.
Now both teams go into the contest knowing that a victory would put them on top of the table after five games, in fact in the Fifers case a draw would see them in pole position on goal difference ahead of Raith Rovers and Dumbarton.
The ‘Loons’ will also be keen to get back on the rails following four competitive games without a win culminating in last Saturday’s goalless draw with Clyde at Station Park.
The home side’s performance in the first half against the ‘Bully Wee’ was fairly high tempo in nature but the longer the game went on the more sluggish they became and in the end were relatively happy to hear the final whistle with a clean sheet and a point secured.
Jim Weir will no doubt be hoping that his charges can get back amongst the goals this weekend, they are the lowest scorers in the division at present and there is no reason why not with creativity aplenty in midfield and striking power upfront.
With a full pool to choose from, the manager may well decide to freshen up his starting eleven again this Saturday with Rory Currie perhaps in line for a front line berth following his 25-minute appearance as a second-half sub last weekend.
Darren Young’s side will arrive in the ‘toonie’ on a high following back to back home wins over Airdrie and Raith, four goals being scored in each contest, two of them last week notched by Chris Higgins and Ryan Wallace who were two of the eight new faces recruited at Bayview over the summer months.
Another of the newcomers is former Athies player Danny Denholm who was on the bench in the Fife derby.
Both sides recorded a win in the Station Park clashes last term, a similar situation occurring on the ‘Loons’ trips over the Tay.
East Fife are likely to bring a substantial following with them on Saturday and hopefully, the home support will also be reasonable for what should be an attractive ninety minutes of action.
