Summary – Last season’s League 2 winners Peterhead make their first competitive visit to Station Park since the League 1 Play-Off Final tie in May of 2017 this Saturday. However, their current crop of players are well used to the Station Park playing surface as they utilise it on a weekly basis for a training session.
At present, the ‘Blue Toon’ outfit sit one place but five points ahead of the ‘Loons’ in the league table and in fact the contest on Saturday will be between the two lowest-scoring team to date this campaign.
That could well mean that the fans on the day could be treated to a goal-fest?
It will be Stuart Malcolm’s home debut as Forfar Athletic manager and no doubt he will receive a warm welcome from the Station Park faithful.
Thankfully a seven-game losing streak in league and cup came to an end at a rain-lashed Starks Park on Tuesday evening when the Athies players put up a determined showing against promotion chasing Raith Rovers, a display which promised better times ahead.
Jordan Kirkpatrick who picked up an injury at Kirkcaldy within the first half hour of the contest and had to be replaced is an obvious doubt for Saturday but the rest of the squad seemed to escape unscathed.
By coincidence, Peterhead also played their last competitive fixture at the same Fife venue losing by the only goal of the game in the Scottish Cup last weekend by all accounts in controversial circumstances.
Rory McAllister is still the main threat for the visitors and Michael Travis and his ‘co-pilot’ at the heart of the home defence Darren Whyte will have to be on their mettle to cope with the threat the Granite City plumber poses.
The Balmoor outfit have in fact picked up seven points from their three league encounters this month, while the 47th counter from Jack Leitch secured the three points for Jim McInally’s side when the ‘Loons’ headed to the Buchan coast in August.
There is no doubting the importance of Saturday’s tussle to both sides with the homesters keen to mark the manager’s first home game with a three-point haul which would close that gap with their oppo0nents to only two points as we head into the last month of the calendar year.
