Summary – Forfar Athletic return to home ‘soil’ on Saturday first hoping to extend their unbeaten league match run to four games under Stuart Malcolm’s stewardship, Jim Duffy’s Dumbarton the opponents.
The ‘Sons’ have already recorded two victories over the ‘Loons’ this season the scoreline on both occasions 3-1 in the home side’s favour in league and cup at the C&G Systems Stadium.
The Athies will go into Saturday’s fixture in a much more confident frame of mind and with after a season of almost ‘mix and match’ a fairly settled line-up.
With Jordan Kirkpatrick still struggling for fitness, the home starting eleven could, in fact, be on similar lines to the previous two fixtures.
A new solidity at the back has been the cornerstone of the Station Park outfit’s wee run in recent times with only one goal conceded in the three fixtures mentioned above and although we rode our luck to some degree in the first hour of last Saturday’s contest, victory could well have been and in fact, should have been secured in the closing quarter of the proceedings.
Dumbarton since knocking the ‘Loons’ out of the cup have clinched all three points in an excellent 2-1 win away to Clyde before coming up second best at home to Montrose last weekend.
Michael Travis and his defensive colleagues will no doubt have their work cut out coping with on-loan Adam Frizzell, the Kilmarnock forward having been a ’thorn in the flesh’ of the Athies rearguard in both matches this term.
The home strike force will also be hoping that unlike last week, if similar chances to those created against the ‘Bully Wee’ come round, on this occasion the ‘killer’ touch will be evidenced and three points secured.
This will be the penultimate home game of the decade, Montrose the visitors in two weeks time, following the long jaunt to Stranraer on Saturday week.
