Club Update
[Thursday, 23 April 2020 14:13]
The ‘Loons’ Board of Directors met by video conference last night and as stated previously are keen to keep supporters up to date as far as possible with club affairs during this unprecedented health crisis.
League Reconstruction and Season 2020/21 – Like all in the game the Directors await over the course of the next four weeks, the recommendations of the sub-committee set up by the SPFL in regard to potential league reconstruction. They do find it slightly strange that it now appears this may be a temporary move for next season only but will not comment further until the findings/proposal are ‘on the table.’. This is especially so when no one has a clue when next season will commence if at all, especially taking the First Minister’s comments on Monday past into account. Certainly the Station Park officials would endorse the opinion of others in the press this week that the prospect of playing games behind closed doors at our level is not a viable proposition, in fact it could be economic suicide with the loss of match day revenue etc. More importantly football without fans would surely be the ultimate pointless excercise!
Management/Players – As mentioned in previous despatches, the management team and players are currently furloughed on the government job retention scheme as is the case with many other clubs. However the Chairman and Manager are in constant dialogue about the way ahead for the club on the playing front. Obviously preparing for a new season is extremely difficult but no doubt Stuart will be having a word with a few players about their future and we will keep the fans as up to date as possible with these discussions. At present five players from the current squad are on contract for next term.
Share Sales – The Directors would again like to thank the many supporters from ‘a the airts’ who have supported the club in this fashion in recent weeks. A five figure sum, far exceeding expectations has been raised to date.
Loons Lucky Lotto – The Directors are also delighted with the support afforded the new on line lottery, again from supporters all over the globe. Draw number four is scheduled for tonight.
250 Club – The final draw of the 250 Club for the current season was scheduled for what should have been our final home game of the season this Saturday when Dumbarton were due to be our opponents. It will go ahead over the weekend and the result of the draw will be posted on club social media outlets.
Alastair Donald – It was announced to shareholders at the AGM in February that current Vice Chairman Alastair Donald who of course also served a five year stint in the Chairman’s role would be standing down from the Board of Directors at the end of the current season. His fellow Board Members are delighted that this will not be the case at least for the present time. Alastair has agreed to continue in his current role to assist the club through these trying times for all as we battle this horrible pandemic. The knowledge of the workings of the game he has obtained over the past ten years and more alongside his business acumen will be vital we are sure in the weeks and months ahead as we strive to have the ‘Loons’ fighting fit for the resumption of ‘hostilities’ whenever that may be and we will succeed in that aim.
To you all as ever keep safe and well and get out on the door step this evening and lend your support to the real heroes of the current times we live in.
