Jimmy Farquhar – Funeral Arrangements
[Tuesday, 16 June 2020 13:29]
The funeral arrangements for our late President Jimmy Farquhar have been announced.
Sadly as all new would be the case in the current climate, the funeral service has to be private with of course limited numbers as per Government guidelines in attendance.
It will, however, take place on Monday the 22nd of June and Jimmy’s many friends in the town and ‘Loons’ officials and supporters in particular will be given an opportunity to pay their respects and say their farewells.
The cortege will leave Alexander Bain’s car park at 11.10 a.m. and will then make its way up to the traffic lights and come down West High Street past St. Margaret’s Church before stopping briefly outside Alexander Bain’s office.
It will then head to the east end of the town, up North Street and into Carseview Road at around 11.15/20a.m.
This will give Forfar Athletic officials and supporters in particular but also importantly the wider community the opportunity to gather around the main turnstile block at Station Park where the cortege will again come to a short halt to allow due respect to be paid.
Those wishing to honour Jimmy in this fashion be it at the points mentioned in West High Street or at Station Park are reminded of social distancing requirements.
For those meaning to attend at Station Park and who are not too familiar with the surroundings, ample car parking space is available just past the turnstile block and on the road round the back of the main stand.
It is hoped that a Memorial Service will be arranged to celebrate Jimmy’s life and what a great life it was, once normality is restored to all our lives.
Sadly in these ‘hellish’ times we are enduring at present, Forfar Athletic have lost another lifelong supporter Bunty Nicol who was in fact a good friend of Jimmy’s as so many of course were.
Bunty’s association with the club began when her father ‘Skip’ Soutar played for the ‘Loons’ before going on to be a Board Member for a number of years.
Bunty was a season ticket holder and a Station Park regular in her seat next to the Director's Box on match days, right up to the abrupt ending of the 2019/20 campaign.
Our sympathies are extended to son Hamish, also a keen fan of the Athies as a youngster before moving from the town and Bunty’s extended family at this sad time.
