Forfar Athletic supporters will, without doubt, be delighted with the news that Murray Mackintosh and Darren Whyte are to remain at Station Park for another season, having put pen to paper on one-year extensions to their current contracts which were due to expire at the end of the month.
Both are firm favourites with the fans and now that same support base will be hoping that circumstances will allow them to see the pair in action in sky blue colours come October month.
Murray who will celebrate his 23rd birthday next month is originally from Ayrshire but has been Dundee based through study and work since joining the ‘Loons’ in the autumn of 2015 on, at the time, an amateur registration.
He signed his first professional contract in the summer of 2016 and has been a member of the first-team squad a few months on loan to Carnoustie Panmure apart ever since.
He will now look to add to the near eighty appearances he has made in the Athies colours either in the starting line-up of from the bench when competitive action returns in the Autumn.
Darren celebrated his 23rd birthday just before lockdown began has been a regular in the Station Park defence since arriving originally on loan from St. Mirren in September of 2017, having in fact been signed by Stuart Balmer during his short spell in caretaker command of the squad.
On his release from the ‘Buddies’ in the summer of 2018, he became a permanent fixture in the ‘Loons’ squad and is now just a handful of games short of completing 100 starting appearances for the club.
Stuart Malcolm hopes to be in a position to announce at least one further addition to his squad in the next 48 hours.
