Preview
The ‘Loons’ end the month of August with a visit from Stranraer, hoping to complete the month unbeaten.
Two wins, followed by two draws in their four league games to date have seen Gary Irvine’s troops slip ever so slightly to third place in the table at this early juncture behind leaders Kelty Hearts and Annan Athletic. The latter have strung together three wins since their opening day defeat from the Athies.
The home side will go into the game with basically that same pool of players available for selection as last weekend up at Elgin.
There was disappointment in the Forfar camp that only one point was gleaned from their trip north last Saturday, although there was also an acceptance that the share of the spoils at the end of the day was the right outcome.
The ‘Loons’ dominated the early stages of the contest with another display of excellent attacking football but allowed a gritty home side back into the contest and in a second half of few concrete chances, it was Elgin who found the net and the equaliser.
Stranraer managed by former player Jamie Hamill occupy the bottom spot in the table but they do have a game in hand, an away fixture at Cowdenbeath called off a couple of weeks back due to covid in the home camp.
They have to date made twelve summer signings, the latest former Brechin striker Emile N’Goy who moved north from Dorchester Town.
Former Station Park defender Sean Burns was in their starting lineup in the 3-0 home defeat from Stirling Albion last weekend.
Home fans will be hoping for the same level of entertainment that they enjoyed two weeks back in the clash with Kelty, but the main factor for all concerned will be a three-point haul at the end of the day, prior to a wee break from league action with the SPFL Trust Trophy on the horizon for Saturday week.
Fife-based Scott Lambie is the man in the middle.
This weekend’s other cinch league2 fixtures are as follows;-
Friday – Edinburgh City v Elgin City
Saturday - Cowdenbeath v Annan Athletic, Stenhousemuir v Kelty Hearts, Stirling Albion v Albion Rovers
