Dundee v Forfar Athletic – match preview
[Friday, 22 July 2022 10:15]
The sectional matches in the Premier Sports Cup come to anend on Saturday with the ‘Loons’ making the short trip to Dens Park to face Dundee.
They will no doubt at the very least hope to improve on the 5-2 score line in the home side’s favour when the sides met at the same stage of the competition exactly a year ago at the same venue.
At least this time round Forfar supporters will be able to attend the fixture, as admittance twelve months back as we just began tentative steps out of the covid pandemic was restricted to a limited number of home fans only.
Dundee go into the game needing only one point to make certain of topping the group and with it qualification for the last sixteen stage, but a victory would ensure a full twelve point haul and with it a guaranteed home tie in late August.
Under new manager Gary Bowyer, the Dens Park outfit defeated Hamilton Accies 3-0 at home, before away victories were recorded over Stranraer and Queens Park in the tournament so far.
Gary Irvine a Dundee legend in his playing days will no doubt utilise the fixture to firm up his thoughts on a starting eleven for the opening league joust at Bonnyrigg on Saturday week, but his options will again be limited due to injury.
Nathan Flanagan, James Keatings and Darren Whyte are unlikely to feature and Craig Slater’s second half knock on Tuesday past is still being assessed.
He will however welcome back Andy Munro who served a one match suspension on Tuesday evening following his cautions against Queens Park and Hamilton.
It was always going to be a tough section for the Station Park side this early in the season having to compete with three full time sides, but all concerned will still hope to finish with a positive performance.
Graham Grainger will be the man in charge of the contest.
Admission as has been well advertised is by ticket only with no cash turnstiles available on the day.
Forfar fans will have a last chance to buy tickets within the 1984 Lounge at Station Park on Saturday from 11a.m. to 12.30 p.m.
Adults tickets are £15 with concessions priced at £5.
