PREVIEW
Forfar Athletic have a break from league action on Tuesday evening of this week when they welcome last season’s cinch league2 champions Kelty Hearts to Station Park in the second round of the SPFL Trust Trophy.
It was probably one of the hardest draws that the ‘Loons’ could have landed as Kelty are one of only two league one sides who enter the competition at this stage.
However the Station Park management team and players will obviously take heart from the fact that the visitors failed to record a victory in their two visits to Forfar last season, an early season 2-2 draw followed by a 1-0 home win in February.
Managers often give a few fringe players a run out in this competition, but Gary Irvine is unlikely to have much room to manoeuvre.
Darren Whyte is ruled out with his hamstring problem, while Craig Thomson sat out Saturday’s defeat at East Fife.
Yusuf Hussain and Kevin Hanratty picked up injuries at Methil and their fitness will require assessment.
Kelty have had a tough start to their league campaign in higher echelons, losing their first three fixtures before picking up a point in a hard-fought West Fife derby with Dunfermline Athletic on Saturday past.
Manager John Potter who took over from Kevin Thomson in the close season was able to welcome back a handful of his playing squad from injury and illness for that match and it is likely that one or two at least of his nine-man subs bench against the ‘Pars’ will feature from the start on Tuesday evening.
Hopefully, a feisty hard fought cup tie will be in store for supporters of both sides.
George Calder makes his Station Park refereeing debut on the night.
As mentioned above admission prices with the agreement of Kelty have been substantially reduced for the tie, but FAFC season tickets are not valid.
The other round two ties to be played on Tuesday and Wednesday are as follows;-
Tuesday – East Fife v St. Johnstone ‘B’, Elgin City v Stenhousemuir, East Kilbride v Annan Athletic, Kilmarnock ‘B’ v East Stirling, Rangers ‘B’ v Dumbarton
Wednesday – Brechin City v Stirling Albion, Buckie Thistle v Brora Rangers, Celtic ‘B’ v Livingston’B’, FC Edinburgh v Stranraer
