Ray McKinnon sealed his first win as Forfar's manager with an impressive performance against Albion Rovers.
It was a match that saw complete Athies dominance and Forfar should have had the lead early on. Matty Aitken did well to find Nathan Flanagan but he could only fire his one-on-one at the goalie.
Craig Slater crashed a shot off the crossbar as the men in blue looked to take advantage of their dominance but it took until the 33rd minute for the opener to come. Josh Jack’s free kick in a dangerous area was beaten away by the goalkeeper but as the ball came back in, it broke for Ben Armour who did well to poke into the empty net.
It was more of the same in the second half and Nathan Flanagan would twice come so close to doubling the advantage. In the 46th and 56th minutes, he had identical chances which ended in identical outcomes as the ball bounced back, agonisingly, off the inside of the post.
Substitute McCluskey and Armour would both have efforts go astray before the visitors finally started to apply some pressure.
Marc McCallum made a couple of impressive stops from a counter-attack and the visitors looked dangerous from set plays but the makeshift Loons back line held out for a clean sheet and more importantly three points.
The victory sees McKinnon’s men move level on points with Bonnyrigg Rose and just a point behind Saturday’s visitors Albion Rovers.
The Loons now face just under a month on the road but know that a win at Stenny next week will see them move off the bottom of the cinch League 2 table.
