Sunday afternoon saw a host of Legends return to Station Park to take on a side of Loons fans.
A legends side which included the likes of Paul Tosh, Eric Archibald and Neil Irvine in the starting XI got off to a sluggish start as they dusted off the cobwebs and it was the Loons side who created the first chances. Scott McGechie hit the side netting after some lovely passing gave him a scoring chance.
Alan Smith created the next opportunity for the Loons as he nutmegged Dougie Craig but saw his shot blocked by Eric Archibald.
Jamie Loney created the first chance for the legends as he blasted wide.
Paul Tosh fired one wide shortly after as the Legends' quality began to shine through.
Willie Stewart would drag a chipped effort narrowly wide before Chris Templeman backheeled Scott Kopel through on goal but he too missed the opportunity.
The deadlock would be broken on the 25th minute. Stewart and Templeman linked up well and big Sanny made no mistake, rolling underneath ‘keeper Jamie Struthers.
Struthers would deny Templeman a second moments later with an impressive save but the advantage would be doubled when Ellis Glennie, son of Legend Stuart, slotted home.
It was another second-generation legend who made it three. Francis Stewart scored after some energetic pressing.
Glennie and Stewart linked up for the fourth with a swift counterattack as the youthful enthusiasm got the better of the Loons' defence.
Struthers denied a fifth with a fantastic double save from Allison and Templeman.
Templeman would make it five on the stroke of half time and it was a real Sanny special. He dribbled past three defenders on the byline before rolling the ball past the stretching Struthers and backheeling into the net.
Legends manager Ian McPhee was keen to take the praise for his substitutions of Templeman and the young guns as the reason why his side had taken control but it was a much tighter affair in the second half.
Jamie Loney did increase the advantage for the Legends shortly after half time but a resurgent Loons side looked intent on taking some pride from the game. Loons man of the match Ross Sievewright stung the palms of Neil Ferrie in the goal of the legends..
Paul Tosh and Jamie Loney continued and the former was denied by a brilliant last-ditch tackle before Loney doubled his tally on the counter.
The Loons pulled one back in spectacular fashion after 50 minutes. Euan Hudghton curled a loose ball right into the top corner after the ball broke loose in the corner of the box.
Sievewright then decided he wanted a piece of the action. He beat three before playing a one-two on the edge of the box and was felled. He dusted himself down to fire in the penalty.
McGechie and Smith both had chances thwarted as the comeback looked to be on but it was the Legends who rounded off the scoring. Templeman played a lovely pass to Paul Lunan and he fired past Struthers to make it 8-2 to the Legends.
The man of the match for the Legends was Chris Templeman and the Loons man of the match was Ross Sievwright. Both are pictured receiving their awards from Bob Hill of QAPM Ltd who sponsored the game.
Many thanks to everyone who took part and came along to support this event.
