Playing Staff – Update
[Tuesday, 09 May 2023 10:40]
While the dust has hardly settled after the end of the ‘Loons’ league campaign, manager Ray McKinnon and his staff are already planning for the new season.
Pre-season training is likely to commence in mid June, with pre-season fixture dates pencilled in for early July and perhaps before.
The Viaplay Cup (League Cup) which heralds the start of the competitive campaign is due to get underway over the weekend of July 14th/16th.
At present, Forfar Athletic have six players under contract for next term namely Marc McCallum, Tomas Brindley, Andy Munro, Roberto Nditi, Craig Thomson and Darren Whyte and we look forward to seeing them back in Station Park action in midsummer.
As ever in this day and age players move on at this time of the year and Ray has announced that the following eight players from the current squad will be leaving the club bound for pastures new.
Matty Aitken, Ben Armour, Mark Docherty, Nathan Flanagan, Kyle Hutton, Stefan McCluskey, Lewis Sanderson and Craig Slater are the players in question, the majority having spent a couple of seasons or more at Station Park.
We thank each and everyone for their commitment to the ‘Loons’ cause especially in what were difficult times earlier this season and wish them all the best for the future both on and off the field of play.
Ray will continue dialogue at present with the remaining members of the 22/23 squad over the ensuing days to determine what their future plans will be.
Any news on that front and confirmation of the arrival of new faces to the club will as ever be communicated to the supporters on our social media channels.
Of course all five players who were with the club on temporary transfer arrangements in the second half of the season return to their parent clubs.
Adam Hutchinson, Finn Robson and Darren Watson head back to Dundee United, Max Gillies to Queens Park and Logan Dunachie to Motherwell.
Hopefully all will have a bright future in the game and value their time at Station Park over the past four/five months.
