PREVIEW
Elgin City will be the cinch league2 ‘first foots’ to the Alpha Projects Stadium @ Station Park on Saturday first , both teams looking for their first league success of the campaign.
While Forfar were involved in a battle to secure a point at Stenhousemuir last weekend, Elgin lost out at home to a first half counter from visitors Stranraer.
Manager Ray McKinnon is very much looking forward to the fixture, especially taking into account the ‘Loons’ unbeaten home record this season, but again reiterates that every game in this league will be a tight one.
There is no doubt though that points picked up at home go a long way in the eventual battle for at the very least a top four spot and Andy and his colleagues will be going all out to clinch that vital three point haul.
Josh Skelly who had to exit the action just after the hour mark last Saturday is a doubt and will require a fitness check pre-match.
Hopefully though the Athies have plenty of depth in their ‘locker’ to cope with these setbacks which are inevitable over the course of the season.
On the plus side Roberto Nditi who sat out the clash with the ‘Warriors’ due to a one match suspension returns and Matty Allan who was unavailable for the trip to Ochilview return to the match day squad.
Tomas Brindley injured in the cup tie at Paisley two weeks back will hopefully be fit and raring to get back into action.
The Morayshire outfit who lost all four games in a difficult Viaplay Cup group which included Motherwell, Queens Park, Queen of the South and East Fife make the journey south with a squad that includes that includes six summer additions.
Player Manager Ross Draper has brought in four youngsters on loan from Aberdeen and Ross County as well as signing Nathan Cooney and Ben Barron from Brechin City and Forres Mechanics respectively.
Elgin in fact took seven points from their fixtures with Forfar last season, the first of those points secured with a 2-2 draw at Station Park on the second Saturday in August.
The sides will meet again on Tuesday evening of next week at Boroughbriggs in a second round tie in the SPFL Trust Trophy.
Saturday’s fixture will be refereed by Duncan Nicolson who will handling a ‘Loons’ fixture for the first time.
Hopefully a healthy home support with the excellent performance in the last Station Park outing against the ‘Lichties’ still fresh in the memory will turn out to give valuable support to the management and players.
