Peterhead v Forfar Athletic – match preview
[Friday, 12 April 2024 12:34]
The ‘Loons’ head north to the Balmoor Stadium to meet a Peterhead side currently sitting in second place in the cinch league2 table.
The Athies go into the game on the back of two successive defeats knowing that as they cannot rely on results elsewhere, in all probability a couple of points at least are required from their final quartet of fixtures to guarantee no end of season nerve jangling.
Manager Ray McKinnon despite it looking certain that he will be minus at least a couple of key players is in no doubt that as they did earlier in the season, the squad can record a victory over the ‘Blue Toon’ outfit.
It is a strange day overall in league2 on Saturday with by a strange twist of fate, the top five teams in the league table are at home to the bottom five.
Which of the away teams can therefore cause an upset on the day?
Back to the ‘Loons’ potential line-up tomorrow and Stuart Morrison again misses out serving the second game of a two mach suspension, while Finn Robson is ruled out and rightly so due to strict concussion protocols within the game these days.
Craig Thomson’s availability remains a doubt due to a family bereavement, while at least one other member of the squad will be assessed on arrival at the ground.
Peterhead had late equaliser courtesy of Rory McAllister to thank for a 2-2 draw at Bonnyrigg last weekend, Peter Pawlett the scorer of a hat-trick in their 4-1 home victory over Clyde a couple of weeks back.
This season Peterhead came out on top 3-1 in the first clash against the ‘Loons’ at Station Park back in October, two Seb Ross goals clinching a 2-1 win for Forfar at Balmoor in late December.
The February clash at Station Park was an amazing match, the home side racing into a three goal lead only for Peterhead to fight back to share the spoils courtesy of an equaliser six minutes into added on time.
There is little doubt that the Athies will have to be at their very best to glean a reward from tomorrow’s trip to the Buchan coast, prior to succesive home fixtures against East Fife and Stranraer.
Jordan Curran is the referee on Saturday, his last appearance as a man in the middle at a Forfar fixture away to Spartans in December.
