‘Bully Wee’ are ‘Loons’ opening day opponents
[Thursday, 27 June 2024 09:03]
The fixtures for the William Hill League2 have been released this morning and Clyde who narrowly escaped the dreaded 42nd spot in the final league rankings last season will be the opening day visitors to the Alpha Projects Stadium @ Station Park on Saturday August 3rd.
The ‘Bully Wee’ are again under the guidance of experienced manager Ian McCall who took over the reins midway through the 2023/4 campaign and guided them to safety.
The Athies were in fact unbeaten against the Hamilton based outfit last term, two draws in the first half of the campaign being followed by 2-0 and 2-1 victories in February and March.
The game with Clyde is followed by successive away trips to Peterhead and East Fife prior to home games against relegated Edinburgh City and Elgin City as the opening month of the season comes to a conclusion.
The first quarter of the league fixtures during which we will have four home fixtures and five away comes to an end with a trip to the other side who have dropped down form higher echelons Stirling Albion on October 5th.
Clyde are also one of our opponents over the festive period programme, a visit to New Douglas Park scheduled for December 21st prior to Stirling Albion heading to Station Park on the 28th.
Methil is the destination on January 4th for what is our local ‘derby’ fixture once again this season against Dick Campbell’s East Fife.
Our two long trips to Wigtownshire to face Stranraer who thankfully retained their SPFL status in the nerve jangling pyramid play-off last month are due on December 7th and March 22nd.
The 36 game league season comes to a conclusion on May 3rd as it is due to begin for the ‘Loons’ with a home fixture Stirling Albion the visitors on this occasion to the ‘toonie.’
On the cup tie front, the Premier Sports Cup begins in just over two weeks time with a visit from Livingston on the 13th of July while Forfar Athletic will enter the SPFL Trust Trophy with a midweek second round tie in mid August.
The third and fourth rounds of that competition will take place on the Nations League weekends in September and October when no league fixtures have been scheduled.
As far as the Scottish Cup is concerned, Ray McKinnon’s ‘troops’ will enter the fray at the second round stage on Saturday 26th October.
