Forfar’s first pre-season friendly resulted in emphatic victory over Highland League Brechin City.
The hosts, who are further on in their pre-season schedule, started brightly and had a pair of chances in the opening stages but both were thwarted by debutant Mitchell Taylor and Matty Allan respectively.
The opening goal came somewhat against the run of play after seven minutes. Russell McLean latched on to a short back pass, rounded the goalie and slotted in to the net.
The Loons grew in to the game and should have doubled their lead when Kieran Inglis countered from a corner and ran 60 yards on his own through on goal but he skewed his chip narrowly wide of the target.
Marc McCallum was forced in to a couple of good saves before the break with Ross MacLean, Inglis and McLean all passing up chances for the Loons.
The second half was more dominant from those in mint green and a great chance to double the lead came and went when Josh Skelly’s corner fell for Inglis but somehow his shot was flicked over the bar by City skipper Euan Spark.
Forfar made nine changes on the hour mark when all but Stuart Morrison and Matty Allan were replaced by Zach Paris, Mark Whatley and seven trialists.
The trialists injected energy in to the game and the Loons doubled their advantage when the trialist wearing 12 chased a lost cause, tackled City keeper Jamie McCabe and knocked in to the empty net.
The Loons first run out was complete when the trialist wearing 19 latched on to a loose ball following a corner and fired a volley low in to the net.
The friendly proved to be a valuable first runout for the Loons, who extended their Angus derby winning run to four matches.
Next week, the Loons will play host to Formartine United and will look to sharpen themselves up before the league cup kicks off the following Saturday.
