PREVIEW
The Loons will head to Edinburgh tomorrow in confident mood, following victory over Berwick Rangers in the second round of the Scottish Gas Scottish Cup last Saturday. Edinburgh City will host Forfar Athletic at the revamped Meadowbank Stadium for the first time. The Citizens join the Loons in the third round of that competition, having won a penalty shoot out against the Perth based Jeanfield Swifts of the East of Scotland Premier League.
Stuart Morrison and his colleagues will be looking to rectify a poor performance against Michael McIndoe’s side back in August at the Alpha Projects Stadium @ Station Park, which saw the Loons defeated 3-0. There can be no doubt whatsoever that all of a Loons persuasion, not least of all the players, will be looking for a far improved performance this time out. With that end in view, manager Ray McKinnon and his squad are in good spirits on the back of the Berwick Rangers tie, prior to that having gained a point against league leaders East Fife - a match which in truth could so easily have seen the Loons taking all three points. On that occasion a solid defensive performance saw East Fife restricted to no shots on target, the frustration for the manager coming at the other end of the pitch, opportunities in the final third simply not being converted.
Acknowledging that his side did not play to the standard expected of them last time out against the host team tomorrow, the manager is certainly seeking to rectify matters. On the injury front, Ross MacLean and Adam Hutchinson will remain absent, with perhaps one or two others still to be assessed. Blair Malcolm who missed out against Berwick is expected to return to the squad. Jackson Mylchreest made a welcome return from a ten week absence last weekend, coming on as a 58th minute substitute and impressing Loons’ officials in the process. The gaffer made a point of commenting on the impressive performances of the younger Loons players, in particular noting the impressive performances of Jackson Mylchreest, Nathan Cannon and Aaron Cocks all playing in forward positions, the latter bagging his first goal for the Loons.
In terms of League 2 standings, we are tied on 9 points with both Edinburgh City and Stranraer, level also on goal difference with both teams – goals scored being the differential which places Edinburgh City in 7th and Forfar Athletic in 9th. Last time out in League 2, Edinburgh City were defeated 2-0 away from home to nearby Bonnyrigg Rose.
Saturday’s other William Hill league2 fixtures;- Clyde v Bonnyrigg Rose, East Fife v Stirling Albion, Elgin City v Stranraer, Peterhead v The Spartans
