MCCALLUM SET FOR 300

Marc McCallum made his 299th competitive appearance for Forfar Athletic against Elgin City on Saturday.
The Loons number 1 is set for his landmark 300th appearance for the club, if selected to play against his former club Peterhead tomorrow, for whom he made six appearances on loan in the 2012/13 season.
It all began back in the 2011/12 season, when Marc made his first eight appearances for the Loons on loan from his then parent club Dundee United, the first of those games a 3-2 win over Stenhousemuir at Ochilview on 14 January 2012.
Marc embarked on a number of loan spells after leaving the Loons and even had a season down south, playing for Plymouth Argyle in 2016, before returning home to Station Park in the summer of 2017.
The stopper has been almost ever present since then, missing only a handful of matches.
The fans’ favourite and undoubted Loons legend, now in the eighth season of his second spell at Station Park, will likely move in to the top ten of all time appearances for Forfar before the end of this season.
Raymond Lorimer currently sits in 10th position on the list with 322 appearances, with Stewart Kennedy just behind him as the Loons most capped goalkeeper on 320 appearances. Ian McPhee of course tops the list with 536 competitive appearances!
For Marc, no doubt other milestones await but for now the keeper will prepare to celebrate his 300th appearance in between the sticks at his boyhood club.
It is undoubtedly a remarkable achievement, especially given the change in culture in the lower tiers of the Scottish game since the 1970’s and 80’s, when most of the few still above him in the list were plying their trade.
Congratulations Marc!
