Annan Athletic v Forfar Athletic - Match Information
The ‘Loons’ are on their travels on the final Saturday of scheduled fixtures in the William Hill League 2, Galabank the destination, Annan Athletic the opponents. It will be the third time this campaign that the Athies will have made the trip to Dumfriesshire, the competitive season having begun there back in mid July in a Premier Sports Cup group stage fixture.
To the delight of all, the season is not now coming to a conclusion in the South of Scotland. In the wake of the euphoria on Saturday past following the 4-0 home win over Edinburgh City the campaign was extended with qualification for the League 1 play-off semi finals, fourth place in the league table confirmed in some style.
Annan our opponents on Saturday first, were very much in the mix for a place in the play-offs as well a couple of weeks back, but two defeats on the bounce at the hands of the Spartans and Clyde put paid to their hopes.
The fact that the ‘Loons’ have made it through to the play-off stage with a week to spare will give Jim Weir the opportunity, should he wish to take it of resting a few players on Saturday ahead of next Tuesday’s now key fixture for the club.
Three potential opponents are still in the mix as our opponents, depending on this weekend’s results for the semi-final first leg due at the Alpha Projects Stadium @ Station Park, namely Cove Rangers, East Fife and Hamilton Accies.
